Healthy Living Counseling Center provides counseling services such as:

Orlando Anxiety Counseling:  There are many causes of anxiety. It can be situational in that we just have too many things to do in any given time. We can develop anxiety as a result of a traumatic or stressful event (car accident, abuse, being fired, etc.) Sometimes, people are just born with the predisposition to be anxious or to be a “worrier.”  Health issues (cardiac problems, serious or chronic diagnoses, hormone fluctuations etc.) can also lead us to feel anxious. Regardless of what is causing the anxiety, there are VERY effective methods of alleviating the anxiety and realize that your anxiety is treatable. Studies have shown repeatedly that the most effective ways to treat anxiety is a combination of both anti-anxiety medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

Orlando Caregiver Issues / Stress Counseling: Managing caregiver stress can be difficult, but is possible with the right tools. Caregiving can become both mentally exhaustive as well as physically exhausting leading to chronic stress. We feel “distressed” when we have too many items on our list of things to-do as compared to our ability and resources to check everything off that list. Caregiver responsibilities can last for months or even years leading to chronic stress. Some symptoms of chronic distress can include: Fatigue, poor concentration, worry, mood swings, frequent crying, poor sleep, shortness of breath, racing heartbeat, and changes in appetite. Recognizing that we are experiencing caregiver stress is the first step towards being able to manage that stress. This seems like a simple concept, but is not always as easy as it seems. Caregivers may have developed a habit of putting their own needs on the back burner because, by definition, they are used to worrying about and paying attention to their loved ones needs and want to help care for them in the best possible ways to support them.

Orlando Therapist for Cancer / Coping with Cancer Diagnosis:   There are a wide range of thoughts and emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis that are completely normal. However, these thoughts and feelings may not feel normal because you may not have felt them before. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep problems, and relationship challenges very typically occur along with all the effects of cancer or its treatment. However, just because these emotional challenges are typical and even understandable given what cancer patients are going through, it doesn’t mean that the only option is to endure those feelings of anxiety, depression, anger etc.

Orlando Depression Counseling: Sometimes people can end up feeling depressed, sad, unhappy or "down in the dumps." It is important that you know that you are not alone. Depression affects many people, in many different ways and is experienced by each person differently. A therapist can provide counseling for depression issues whether short-term or for longer lasting periods of depression. Many life altering events can contribute to feelings of total depression, such as a serious illness like cancer, grieving the loss of a loved one, depression after child-birth, loss of a job, loss of a child, childhood abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse/rape, or other overwhelming stressful events. When these feelings last for more than a few weeks and become overwhelming or unmanageable, it may be time to seek the help of a licensed mental health counselor. Mental health therapists, such as Dana Nolan, can provide counseling services to help alleviate your depression, help you understand it better, and assist you in formulating coping skills so you can manage better in your daily life functions. Therapists can also evaluate whether an anti-depressant would help you as an additional form of treatment for depression as well.

Orlando Counseling  for Abuse / Abuse Survivor Issues:  Most people think that abuse is only physical or sexual, but it is important to know that there are many types of abuse. Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Mental/Emotionl Abuse, Verbal Abuse, and Economic or Financial Abuse are more common than you would think. Often times a victim may experience one or more of these different tyes of abuse at the same time.

Physical abuse and sexual abuse can be devastating to one's psyche, which can create barriers for the adult survivor to overcome, such as, building and mantaining healthy relationships, trust, anger, fear, and ability to cope in life in general. In cases of severe traumatic experiences, it is possible that one may develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A qualified mental health profesional can assist you in sorting out what issues you may have and can provde you with tools for developing better coping skills.
